Outdoor Fall Deck Parties-Make Yours Super Special!

When September rolls around, there is still plenty of time to enjoy the outdoors, so don’t ‘roll up the sidewalks’ to you deck just yet! As the temperature cools off, it is prime time to settle down on the deck and bask in the beauty of nature.

Since you will likely be spending a good amount of time on your deck, you may as well invite others to enjoy it with you. So, get your creative juices flowing and prepare to entertain!

Choose a Party Theme

When you are preparing for a get-together, there are several fun themes to choose from.

Try a wine tasting party featuring a few new wines along with cheese, crackers, and fruit. Consider purchasing wines from a local winery for some unique flavors, and help keep them in business too!

Football season is also getting into full swing. On game day, put together some barbecued tailgate snacks, some local beers, and the colors of your favorite team.

Toward the end of September, you might want to consider some fall themes. Have an Oktoberfest or pumpkin harvest party.

Decorating Ideas

Decorating in tones of orange, reds and yellows will make the season really pop. Light up the deck with lanterns or pillar candles surrounded by gourds, pumpkins, and bright fall foliage. Paint some pumpkins. Fill up mason jars with colorful acorns or plaid ribbon. Put some tealight candles nearby for an extra glow.

Fun for Everyone

Set up yard games, such as cornhole, a deck of cards or board games for your guests to play. There are many outdoor party games on the market to choose from.

Display The Food

Where you put the food out at a party makes a big difference. Make sure your guests can flow freely through the food line. Designate a main area for entrees and place the silverware, plates and cups close by. Put snacks on small tables placed throughout the patio or yard, near where people will be gathering.

Lighting Ideas:

Putting lights out on the deck or patio can really make the atmosphere festive. Try hanging string lights above the bar or entryway; drape lights throughout food displays and centerpieces, place jar candles throughout the table and seating areas. Light up a firepit if you have one. This can also keep guests cozy after the sun goes down.

Save Room for Dessert!

If you have a fire pit, have marshmallows nearby for roasting. If you really want to satisfy a sweet tooth, throw in graham crackers and chocolate bars to make s’mores; consider a pie bar featuring fall-inspired pies; or keep it simple with brownies and cookies. Don’t forget the hot chocolate too-a perfect nightcap to a cool evening!

Fall is the perfect time for a deck party. Keep it small or jazz it up. It doesn’t matter, as long as it’s the right party for you!
