Home Spot-Cleaning Tips

Home Spot-Cleaning Tips

With the hustle and bustle of the holidays, it’s easy for time to quickly slip away from us. This can result in panic when we’re expecting guests. Take a deep breath and prepare to do some speed cleaning. Here are a few spot-cleaning tips sure to have you ready when the doorbell rings.

Get Inventory Together

Gather all of your cleaning items. This includes a dustpan, vacuum, mop, sponges, glass cleaner, disinfectant wipes, and trash bags. Keep your cleaning supplies in a convenient location so you can quickly access them.

The Cleaning Checklist

Pull together an organized list of all the chores you want to get done. Make sure the list breaks down the cleaning goals in each room. A list set aside for holiday cleaning will help ensure nothing is forgotten, like a roll of fresh toilet tissue.

Daily Cleaning Tasks

There are certain cleaning tasks that should be done daily. Other chores should be done periodically throughout the year. Make sure you keep up with them. If dirt is left to sit, it will be harder to scrub off later.

Time Management

Make sure you set realistic goals. Take into account the size of your property, if you’re cleaning alone, and the jobs you will have. Come up with a time frame and a plan. If you’re well prepared, you won’t have to get it all done at the last minute. Consider hiring help if you need it.

Quick Cleaning Tips

Here are some cleaning jobs you can take care of right away so they don’t pile up.

Do the dishes. Don’t let them sit in the sink, on the counter, and everywhere else. Wash them right away. Clean up after you cook.

Make your bed. Do it first thing in the morning. It will set the tidy tone for your day.

Spritz the shower. Spray it with an all-purpose cleaner and wipe it down daily. This will keep it cleaner.

Check the fridge. Toss out spoiled food and wipe up spills.

Set a timer. If you have a lot of household tasks, set a timer for 20 minutes. Commit to cleaning and organizing during that time.

Dust. If you watch TV in the evening, dust during the commercials.

Prepare for Guests

If you’re entertaining, be sure to prepare for company. Clean the guest bathroom. Brighten it up with fresh flowers, scented soaps, and holiday decor. If people are sleeping over, stock up on clean towels, shampoo, conditioner, and soap. Set aside a laundry hamper or basket for dirty towels. Spruce up the guest bedrooms as well. Put fresh linens on the bed. Set aside blankets. Freshen up your home with herbs like lavender and chamomile.
