4 Nearby Day Trips to Take This Summer

Maryland is one of the smaller states, but there are still a lot of fun places to visit throughout the year. Whether you prefer to unwind on the beach or somewhere deep in the woods, there is likely a spot in Maryland or a nearby state that has you covered! In fact, our state is commonly called “America in Miniature” because of its vastly diverse landscape. Here are some nearby day trips that you can take.

Longwood Gardens

The peak of spring foliage may have passed us already, but don’t let that stop you from making a trip just into southeastern Pennsylvania to visit Longwood Gardens. This botanical garden is constantly rotated with in-season plants, meaning you are bound to find something that amazes you regardless of when you visit.

C&O Canal

The C&O Canal runs from Washington DC to Cumberland, and there are plenty of trails along the way worth visiting. If you are into nature and sightseeing, be sure to make stops and places like Great Falls and the historic town of Harpers Ferry this summer.

Ocean City

Harpers Ferry and Deep Creek are great areas to visit for those who prefer to spend their time out exploring nature, but sometimes you can’t beat a relaxing weekend by the ocean. COVID numbers throughout the state are dropping, so many Marylanders are surely planning to get back to this popular vacation destination and spend some time in the sun. Bear in mind that masks may still be required in some areas!

Merriweather Post Pavilion

Reduced COVID cases across the state mean that music venues are starting to reopen en masse. In Maryland, we happen to have one of the best music venues in the country, just outside of Baltimore city! Whether your favorite era of music is the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s or modern times, you are sure to find a show that interests you on their calendar.
